America's Rain Forests: A Distance Learning Adventure

Through this online classroom, teachers and students can register for and become active participants in scheduled interactive, virtual fieldtrips such as "America's Rain Forests: A Distance Learning Adventure.” In October 2005, that online fieldtrip featured a webcast from rain forests in Puerto Rico and Alaska. Sponsors of "America's Rain Forests” include the USDA Forest Service, the Prince William Network (PWNet) and the National Forest Foundation among others.

Description: First offered as a pilot in fall 2003, U.S. History Connects is a self-paced course for Virginia teachers taught by Dr. Carolyn J. Lawes, Professor of History at Old Dominion University. This course is taught by CD-ROM and over the Internet. It is open to all Virginia teachers as a free recertification course, or graduate credit may be earned by paying tuition to Old Dominion University.
